Savannah Harpley’s Journey from Pain to Empowerment

Name:

Savannah Harpley

What inspired you to become a teacher?

I completed my first teacher training in 2019 after falling in love with the flowy, feminine feeling of Pilates. The low impact exercise helped me through chronic pain and I wanted to inspire others to do the same! I love the proud smile on my students faces after a challenging class and it reminds me why I do what I do!

How would you describe your teacher style in three words?

Form, Flow, Upbeat

Do you have a favourite pose, exercise or principle to teach - and why?

I’m a big fan of a Pilates teaser - I love the mindfulness of the slow control into the exercise and how strong it makes you feel. Students feel really accomplished when they give this exercise a go!

What does your personal practice look like outside of the studio?

Most weeks I’ll attend Pilates and strength classes as well as a beach walk

What do you love to do when you're not teaching or practicing?

I currently work full time as a marketing manager (which I love!) as well as teaching. Outside of this I’m currently learning pottery wheel throwing, and love spending my weekends at the farmers markets with my husband, reading, making pasta or a cheeky long lunch with the girls.

What's your favourite animal - and why?

My sweet dog Arlo

Are you a sunrise or sunset person?

Sunrise on a slow morning

What's your favourite drink?

Iced almond latte

If you could have one super power what would it be and why?

To teleport so I can go to Italy for the weekend

What has your practice taught you about life?

Every time you push through a Pilates class, you realise you’re stronger than you think and that you can do hard things! It’s taught me the importance of mindfulness, tuning into my mind-body connection and learning to hold space for myself. I don’t think it’d be so intuitive and connected to my body without my Pilates journey.
