Julia Goeller on the Power of Breath, Yin, and Unconditional Love

Name

Julia Goeller

What inspired you to become a teacher?

Honestly - I was always mesmerised by the influence which Yoga Teachers seem to have! How even just being in their presence brings more calmness, and how within the shortest amount of time they are able to truly transform the way that people feel. I wanted to be able to create this exact experience too.

How would you describe your teacher style in three words?

Authentic, Nurturing, Thoughtful

Do you have a favourite pose, exercise or principle to teach - and why?

Brahmari Pranayama - if you know, you know! (the effects on the mind are just undoubtedly incredible)

What does your personal practice look like outside of the studio?

I have allowed myself to find my own rhythm. Sometimes that means 5 slow and deep breaths are enough, sometimes I won't leave the mat for two hours straight!

What do you love to do when you're not teaching or practicing?

You will find me drinking Cacao, playing with my puppy 'Poppy' and doing my best to keep the two away from each other. For Poppy, my beloved Cacao and I are a walking death trap (poor thing)

What's your favourite animal - and why?

Poppy - how can dogs express this much unconditional love and happiness?!

Are you a sunrise or sunset person?

Sunset. I recommend not to approach me before 7 am!

What's your favourite drink?

Ceremonial Cacao

If you could have one super power what would it be and why?

Being able to create a "yes" as desired. Imagine the opportunities if the other person had to respond with a yes! "Could you please take me to the moon tomorrow? Yes!"

What has your practice taught you about life?

How to maintain present during challenges and to always return to the breath when things get uncomfortable. (Thank you Yin)
