Everyday Rituals for a Balanced Life with Kylie Cook
How do you define cleansing or resetting to bring your body, mind, and spirit into balance? What does this look like for you, and why has it become such an important part of your life?
Light is really important to me. I see the sunrise almost every day and make sure I have as much skin exposed as I can. Letting that first light in makes all the difference — it gives me that daily reset. I eat organic food; the only time I don’t is when I go out to dinner, which is so rare. But when I do go out, I enjoy every bit of it — no one needs to compound that choice with guilt. I drink really good, clean, chemical-free water. I also do hot and cold sessions twice a week. When I get in that sauna and sweat it out, it feels like letting go of the build-up — a release that clears my body and mind.
What does taking time to slow down, step back, recharge, or practice self-care mean to you personally and professionally? Why have these practices become such a cornerstone of your life, especially as someone who has built a business around them?
Being truly honest here, I’m terrible at this. At the moment, the wheel has got me, and I tend to scamper a lot. I feel like the answers to question one, along with having an amazing family, are what hold me together. I recently became a grandmother, and getting away every two weeks for a day or two to spend time with her has forced me to make time. It’s funny how time suddenly appears when you really need it.
How do you carve out space for these moments amid the busyness of life — running a business, parenting, working, or managing other responsibilities?
Haha, still learning this. But hiring well is key. At The Bathhouse, I’ve been so lucky to surround myself with truly wonderful staff. Knowing that they’re holding the “business baby” when I’m not there is the cornerstone of getting to the point where slowing down is actually possible.
What benefits or effects have you noticed — for yourself or those you work with — when you intentionally slow down, pause, and reset?
Patience. When I take time away from the business, my levels of patience grow exponentially.
What advice would you give to others who want to bring more intentionality into their habits to nurture mind, body, and spirit wellbeing?
See the sunrise as often as you can. Drink really good water. Eat organic food as a priority — reducing the chemical load lowers the pressure on your body. Surround yourself with people you love and who nurture you in return. Sweat at least once a week, and be forgiving with yourself whenever you’re not able to do any of these things. Most of all, choose love — even when it’s the hardest feeling to find.
