10 Years of Ritual: A Reflecting on Practice, Purpose & Community with Ritual’s Founders

This year, Ritual turns ten.

A decade of shared practice, quiet growth, and steady connection here on the Gold Coast—a moment to pause and return to the heart of why we began.

We’ve been asking ourselves—and inviting you to ask, too:

What does Ritual really mean?
Why do we return—to the mat, the reformer, the breath—again and again?

From day one, Ritual was never just about yoga or Pilates. It was about offering a space where people could feel a little more like themselves. A place to land, to listen, to soften into stillness or move with intent—and leave feeling more present, more connected.

In the months ahead, we’ll continue exploring that “why” through classes, conversations, retreats, and community gatherings grounded in authenticity and thoughtful practice. Because Ritual has never been about the walls or the timetable; it’s always been about the people who show up, teachers and students alike.

How It All Began

Ten years ago, we—sisters Sophie and Rose Lamont—opened the doors to a studio we’d quietly been dreaming of: a sanctuary where movement, rest, and reflection could coexist. We didn’t have a polished business plan, but we did share a clear vision and a commitment to creating something warm and inclusive—a studio that felt like home.

Our mum, Deb, actually named Ritual. She saw what we hadn’t fully articulated yet: that at its core, this was about showing up with intention—turning everyday acts of care into something meaningful. That idea has guided everything since.

A Gold Coast Community, Grown Over Time

Ritual began with one studio and has gently grown into three—each evolving into its own living, breathing community. Over the years we’ve held thousands of classes, retreats, trainings, workshops, and gatherings. Yet what matters most is what happens between those sessions: friendships form, self-trust strengthens, and a supportive rhythm takes root.

This studio has never been about perfection; it’s always been about presence.

Teacher Training on the Gold Coast

A natural part of our journey has been creating pathways for students to deepen their practice—or teach if they feel called.

  • Yoga Teacher Training (200 hours) blends tradition with practical inquiry, weaving asana, philosophy, anatomy, and self-reflection.

  • Pilates Teacher Training—reformer or mat—focuses on sound technique and real-world application.

We don’t aim to produce one type of teacher; we aim to hold space for each person to discover their own voice.

Looking Ahead

As we celebrate ten years, we’re not simply marking time; we’re honouring everyone who has made Ritual what it is. Our anniversary is less about looking back and more about realigning with the values that brought us here—care, community, and consistency.

With more franchise studios nearby, we remain a family-run, female-led, community-oriented space. Keeping Ritual personal, connected, and welcoming is our highest priority.

This year, expect more chances to gather, reflect, and grow—through classes, retreats, conversations, and new ways to connect. We’d love to hear what you hope to see, because Ritual is, and always has been, about the people who show up.

When you walk into Ritual, you’re not just coming to class. You’re coming home—to yourself, to this space, to something shared.

Thank you for being part of our first ten years.

With gratitude,
Sophie & Rose Lamont
