Mikela has been a practitioner of Yoga for over 21 years. She is professionally recognised by International Yoga Alliance as an Expert Registered Yoga Teacher (ERYT-500) and Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider® (YACEP®)
Mikela was first introduced to Yoga by Swami Sarasvati at the age of 17. She felt an immediate sense of connection to all forms of the practice, and a strong feeling that Yoga was her path in life. She continued with a dedicated and regular practice with Simone Barry, an Ashtanga teacher in Newtown, Sydney.
When Mikela met Simon Borg-Olivier and Bianca Machliss, physiotherapists and Directors of Yoga Synergy, she remained their student for many years. During this time Mikela also met one of their teachers, Clive Sheridan, who she began to retreat with in India on a regular basis: going deeper into the practice and learning the sacred teachings of Tantra and Advaita Vedanta.
In 2008 Mikela left her career in the Music Industry and completed a 200hr Yoga Teacher Training course at Samadhi Yoga. In 2009 Mikela was chosen by her teachers at Yoga Synergy to embark on a one-on-one apprenticeship, one of the only schools that trained teachers in this traditional way. With them, she also completed studies in Applied Anatomy & Physiology of Yoga. Mikela has also taken various personal retreats in Portugal and Thailand, committing to self-study, especially of the Bhagavad Gita. She has also studied with Shandor Remete, Louisa Sear and Eileen Hall.
Over the last fourteen years Mikela has devoted most of her time to the sharing of the precious teachings that she has received thus far. She has taught complete beginners to advanced practitioners in both class and private settings, traditional workshops and regular retreats for her students in Sydney and Byron Bay in Australia and Koh Tao, Thailand. Mikela has also taught various professional athletes in Rugby Union, Rugby League, Womens Basketball and Boxing. She was a Yoga Teacher for a well known addiction rehabilitation facility which inspired her to complete studies in Counselling Psychology for which she is now professionally certified. Mikela teaches guest spots on Yoga Teacher Training courses in philosophy, adjustments & assisting and her specialised workshop "The Art of Teaching Yoga: Tools for Teaching."
Mikela lives what she shares. She believes a daily Yoga practice can be so powerful as to transform one’s entire way of existing – that the combined tools of Yoga are a gateway to unifying physical vitality, mental freedom and ultimately spiritual insight and wisdom.
