Yoga -

At Ritual we practise a variety of different styles of yoga. All phsyical yoga falls under the umbrella term hatha yoga which is the concious manipulation of the body, mind and breath as a recipe for personal well-being. There are many ways to practice hatha, and at Ritual we teach classical Hatha classes, Vinyasa flow, Katonah Yoga, Restorative Yoga and Yin Yoga. All of our teachers are experienced yoga practitioners who draw on their own backgrounds and lineages across many styles of yoga to deliver the tools and techniques of hatha yoga while accommodating for all levels from beginners to advanced practitioners.

Katonah Yoga -

Katonah Yoga incorporates classical Hatha yoga with Taoist theory, sacred geometry, magic, mythology, metaphor and imagination in a practical framework designed to potentiate personal and communal well-being. Framing the practice with maps of time and personal space are defined and refined.

Incorporating themes using asana as origami, manipulating form for function, and developing a sense of personal measure.

Katonah Yoga is organized around three principles of esoteric dialogue:

  1. All polarities are mediated by trinity
  2. The universe has pattern, pattern implies intelligence
  3. By virtue of repetition there is potential for insight

Vinyasa Yoga -

The term Vinyasa is derived from “Nyasa” meaning “to place” and “vi” meaning “in a special way.” Vinyasa Yoga classes at Ritual cultivate both groundedness and fluency. It’s a style of yoga where poses are strung together to form one fluid sequence of movement, there is a focus on transitions and movements, with less time spent in stationary poses. Vinyasa classes focus on the breath linked with movement and offer the opportunity to enter into a moving meditation practice.

Hatha Yoga -

Our Hatha Yoga classes are more traditional in nature and focus on classical poses, while cultivating the breath and meditation. The classes are slower than a Vinyasa or Katonah Class however they are still dynamic in that they cultivate hea and energy. These classes are great for coming back to the essence of your practice.

Yin Yoga -

Yin yoga is a restorative/therapeutic style of yoga which offer students the opportunity to unwind and go deeper into their bodies. The majority of the classes is spent in seated or reclined postures which are held for approximately 3-5 minutes. These classes aim to release tension in the fascia, connective tissue, joints, and muscles, often built up over a lifetime. Yin yoga is great for students who want to balance out busy lifestyles, increase flexibility and is also great for those who are new to yoga or who may be working with injuries.
